Venting! Kids not in car seats :(

I have to vent on this subject! Kids not in their car seats…I am pretty sure they are made for a reason and that you could get in a lot of trouble for not using one, including killing your child. In one week I have seen this 4 times. Two times really made me angry.  Let me start by saying my child just got out of a booster seat and she is 8 years old. As silly as she looked in one, while all of the kids at her school did not use them, she was too small to get out of it. Safe is better than dead! Back to my story. I was going down the road my grandma lives on and the person down the street was passing us. In the FRONT seat where children 5 years old are prohibited, there was a 5 year old. Not only was he up front, out of a car seat, and had not so much as a seat belt on, but he was also hanging half of his body out of the window waving at people as they passed!! It makes me think some parents either hate their children or are just to stupid to realize what kind of tragedy it would be if they lost their child. Read people, PLEASE!! The second time I am in a drive thru and the parent has at least 6 kids piled into the back seat of her car…that’s right…her car. This was not an SUV with multiple seats but a little tiny car that barley fit 3 kids in the back. One kid was laying in the back window while the rest were jumping around leaning up front with out seat belts or car seats, while mom orders McDonalds. You mean to tell me you can afford McDonalds but you can not afford proper safety seats for your child?! I get so very aggravated and scared about this topic. I am not the mom that texts or talks and drives or anything else that may put my child or family at risk. I am 28 years old (almost) and have never gotten a ticket or been in trouble. Not bragging just saying that I can stay safe and still have “fun” and be sociable without hurting people in the process.  I am going to end this now with please be safe on the road because I care about your children and I expect you to care about them as well.

Dye Allergies

St. Patricks day this year my daughter wanted to turn all of our food green. As gross as it sounds and as moldy as it looked, we made green steak, potatoes, corn, and a ton of green cupcakes with green icing! About 30 minutes after we ate it she started getting itchy. Her body broke out in a rash, starting with her face and ending with her toes. I kind of panicked because that had only happened once when she had Roseola. We gave her a bath in baking soda and vinegar and gave her some Benadryl.  I started researching food coloring. Come to find out yellow and blue makes green just like you learn in elementary school. Yellow #5 (also has many names) has been know to cause reactions in children. In many parts of the world they have banned it along with blue and red.  It can cause anything from rash to choking to death in children. Since there is supposedly not enough proof of this they still use it. This rash thing has happened multiple times since then even after we cut out yellow #5. We realized when she drank orange Fanta one day that it happened and again with pop tarts with blueberries. One has blue food coloring and one red. It only happens when she has it in large doses. We now have trained her in double checking labels. There are a lot of companies out there that use natural ingredients such as Turmeric for coloring foods. I recommend that you research this if your kid breaks out in a rash. For us this year has been the year of trial and error, from milk allergies to acid re-flux. My daughter decided to get everything in one year (she is 8).  There are no test that our doctor can find that can check for food coloring allergies, they just recommend she stay clear of certain colors. I hope you found this article helpful and wish you luck with your dye allergy/intolerance.

Phillips Avent My first grown up cup Review

I bought this cup for my 3 year old niece. She loves it! Your kid puts their mouth on it and the drink comes out and when they are not drinking out of it, it is supposed to be sealed. It does pretty good but if dropped or shaken the liquid flies out and leaks everywhere. It is the best big kid cup I have found though if you can be slightly careful. I do not recommend for a 1 year old though. My other niece tries to get the cup (she is 1) because she wants to be big and she pushes it and watches it pour out. Quite amusing for her but a big mess for me.  It is fairly easy to clean as it comes apart and it has a lid for when not in use. I give it 4 stars. It is always better than giving a regular cup which will pour if it is being used.

Monster High Dolls Review

Yeah…I hate them! Sure they look cool and they are “scary” dolls but they are not worth the $15-$40 they cost.  My daughter has had several of them and each one ends up in pieces. She is very careful with her toys! The body parts and accessories come off way to easily and you spend hours looking for a tiny forearm or hand. There is one set where you make your own doll and it is so cheesy! It comes with one set of hair and ears that clip to the hair…my daughter had to have it and got rid of it within the month. Not a whole lot more to say about them. If you find them at Goodwill which is where I send the graveyard of dolls, it may be worth checking them out or if you are a collector but in my opinion they are a waste of money. Stick with Barbie, the only thing you loose is a shoe. 3 stars for coolness and creativeness.  The show on the other hand is pretty cute as well as some of the other toys sans the dolls.

Paula Deen Pot Set

My Paula Deen Set is 12 pieces. Pictured below. I got them for Mothers day in 2012 and love them now as much as I did then. I have had them for a little over a year and they work amazing! They cook evenly and nothing and I mean nothing sticks to them. They are coated on the inside and are still in perfect condition. As long as you use the kind of spatula and spoon that come with it there should never be any scratches! Wash just like you would anything else. I have tried to burn stuff in them and it barley happens and what does get burnt comes right out. The best pots/pans I have ever had! My mom purchased them for me for about $100 at Walmart and it was totally worth the money. Five stars again for Paula Deen!

Levitron Levitating Globe Review

My daughter went to school and Dr. Doug the science guy was there. She is in second grade and came home telling me about how she wanted a levitation machine! I was like what? Are you crazy, what is that? She said, “oh Dr Doug told me I could have one for about $100+ on line”. Ok kid I am not paying that much money for a levitation machine…what is it. She proceeds to show me what it was and insisted she NEEDED one for her 8th birthday. My mom being the spoiler in the family (meaning what ever the kids want they could almost always get it), decided she would buy it for her. It came in the mail a few days ago and now we are waiting to give it to her.  She found it on Ebay for about $36. Usually kids do not care for this kind of thing but my kid is the exception. My mom and I checked it out and it is actually pretty awesome! It has a plastic base kind of like a mirrored dome and a 4″ globe. The globe is just like a big globe only tiny. It opens up so that you can take the magnet out of the globe and levitate any small object (such as a littlest pet shop toy or a kelley doll or plastic GI Joe). You plug it in and put the globe over the base. It takes a minute to find the right spot to put it but once it starts levitating it is really cool. It levitates about 1/2″ from base using magnets. It also spins forever if you easily give it a little turn. In my opinion it is a great learning tool if your kid is into that kind of thing or you can use it as a conversation piece. The only negative is that it can not go near electronics because of the magnetic field.  They can be quite pricey online but Ebay seemed to be the sweet spot for us. They also sell other things that levitate and there are many videos on youtube that show you how to make your own levitation device. Good luck and enjoy!

Best Mop, laundry pods,& dryer bars…oh my! Review

I am a clean freak! OCD crazy!  Not saying my house is like Monks(you should really watch that show!) but it can get pretty crazy at my house.  I don’t know about you but I like the mop with the sponge. Not the string mop or the swiffer or the mop with the crappy sponge imitator but an actual sponge. I found the Michael Graves Butterfly Mop!! EEKKK super excited since I have a child and my life now revolves around her and cleaning!  So as it goes I pay $16 for this mop thinking it may be a piece of crap because of the price but I was wrong.  I have all hard wood floors in my home and they take forever to dry but with this mop it is like 5 minutes per room to dry and less grouchy statements like “why do you always mop us out of the house”, from my little family, lol. So far I have had it for a year and it gets five stars!! Target is where I bought it from, so go there and snatch it up.  Second there are these new laundry pods. Tide, purex, and just about everyone else makes them. Why such the big hype? I will tell you why! I was  hesitant and then I went on facebook to a coupon site and got a junk load of freebies. I got a box with Tide pods! You just throw them in the washer and wait for them to pop and add your clothes. That’s it. No messy liquid running off the cap or powder clinging on for dear life to your clothes. Just a clean easy laundry day. No measuring hoping you actually get 30 loads out of the bottle. 35 pods=35 loads. Plus your kids and husband have no more excuse about not washing clothes. An idiot can do it. By the way the expensive ones smell just like the cheapies so do not waste your hard earned dough! You can get like 35 for under $5. Last we have the Bounce dryer bar. I so obviously just realized these exist so there have to be more people like me who never pay attention and still use the sheets. These are awesome you stick it to the inside of the dryer and change it in 3 months. No lie…3 months. They are about $6 for 2 of them and last that long. I am so happy I no longer have to worry about the sheet getting stuck in my panties or on my butt from the dryer. I forget and walk out of my house like that. So easy as pushing it in the dryer and they make your clothes smell amazing. Another thing I put one in the trunk of my SUV and wow it makes my car smell like Heaven! So there you have it, my favorite cleaning things right now, all with 5 stars.

Heel Tastic Review

I am a southern country girl at heart and I wear flip flops all year, well at least until it gets freezing. I have nice feet but from wearing flip flops my heels and big toe are a little hard. I bought this heel tastic and used it for a few weeks.  It made my feet very soft and nice while I used it. After I stopped using it, to see if it actually fixed the problem or just covered it up, I realized that it actually dried my whole foot out. My feet hurt like crazy because it made them feel cracked and so dry that I wanted to bathe them in lotion. It is a nice product if you continue use, but If you purchase it for $10 at stores like Walmart and Walgreens, you may have to continue for who knows how long to keep the effect. I also want to add that I do not like that it comes in a deodorant type tube. You twist the bottom to make more go up. It feels gross. The other thing that bothered me is how slippery it makes your feet and how long it takes to absorb. When you put it on your own body heat melts it from the tube so you go through it pretty quick.  I suggest just sticking with the age old salt water foot soak and a little scrubbing.

Microtia or Hemifacial Microsomia

My niece is one of the most beautiful souls that ever lived! Her name is Jaylin or as we call her J-bug. My bug has Hemifacial Microsomia and with that came one big kidney and one tiny kidney.(http://www.earreconstructionspecialist.com/conditions-hemifacial-microsomia.html) For those of you that have kids with this “syndrome”, I will tell you that these are some of the most awesome kids ever! I will share our journey with my niece on here so that everyone can see her progress. She was born about 4lbs, so tiny that I (aunt JeJe) would not dare hold her for the first few days. A lot of us thought she may not make it  but were very hopeful! She was a fighter! I loved her more than life itself before she ever entered this world! Next to my daughter she was the most beautiful baby I had ever laid eyes on but  we noticed one thing. Her “special” ear, as I call i call it. It was very small and misshaped. We were worried that something very bad might be wrong. We found out that she also had Hemifacial as well as the Microtia. One side of her beautiful little face was a bit different than the other. She has one kidney that is in her pelvis as well as one (thankfully) in the correct spot and growing enough to compensate for the other one. She also has a thumb on one hand that is basically a finger instead of a thumb.(not sure but could be Towns Brock syndrome: http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/townes-brocks-syndrome) She grew as she should, learned as she should, and seemed to hear as she should.  She is now 3 1/2 years old and one of the smartest out there. You hear that sometimes this can cause learning disabilities and other disabilities but in her case there seem to be none. She runs and plays. She loves books, painting, barbies, and I recently taught her to spell my. She learned her ABC’s very early on and talks exceptionally well.  Nothing holds her back. She is just like everyone else only extra special. The Doctors have checked her hearing and believe that she may have some hearing in there, but because of the Microtia, they will find out for sure when they do her ear reconstruction when she is about 5 or 6. She is very small (wears 18 mth clothing). They brought up that she may have to have facial surgery but her parents are uncertain if they will do it as they find her gorgeous just the way she is. They may leave it up to her. As of right now they are not worried about her. She will start school next year which will bring a whole new set of problems. Hopefully there will be no bullies and her personality will win their hearts. I ask all of you to please inform your children about children who are different than them because these children are no different than the shy kid, the kid with glasses, or anyone else for that matter, they just look a little different. That is the jist of my nieces journey summed up but as life unfolds for her, I will let you know how it goes. Below is a picture of my niece 🙂
